Types of Man's Skincare Products

Updated: Jun 1, 2023

Nowadays, even men manage it. However, even if they manage it, many people don't know how to do i t. first. Today, I'm going to write an article that summarizes the types of men's cosmetics and the order in which they are applied, and takes the first step towards becoming a man who manages them.

Men's cosmetics summary

There are countless types of cosmetics. Many people have heard of everything from basic skins and toners to CC cream and BB cream, but they don't know exactly what each cosmetic product does and what characteristics it has. Different types have different roles on the skin and different effects, so let's see what the differences are. And after we know the types, let's even find out the order in which they are applied.

Types of cosmetics for men

First, let's take a look at each type of men's cosmetics one by one.

Skin, Toner

Skin and toner are cosmetics with a texture close to water that is applied immediately after cleansing. Depending on the product, it is also called skin or toner. Skins and toners can be distinguished according to the purpose for which they were created. A toner is a cosmetic product used in the finishing stage to wipe off any residue or impurities left on the face after cleansing. Skin is a cosmetic product whose purpose is to moisturize the skin rather than for cleansing purposes. Therefore, it is the toner that has properties closer to water, and the more viscous cosmetics are the skin. Nowadays, however, they are not completely distinguished, but are also used interchangeably. So when you use it, you don't have to divide it, you can use only one thing.

Essences, serums, ampoules

There are several functional cosmetics that can be applied between the skin and lotion. Essences, serums, ampoules, etc. are among them. Each of these cosmetics often has a purpose. For example, whitening, firming, soothing, etc., each has a purpose to work on the skin. Aside from that, there are many high-functional and expensive products compared to skin and lotions. As with skins and toners, many of the boundaries of distinction have disappeared for essences, serums, and ampoules. So, rather than dividing the three into types, you can decide what function you focus on and apply it to your skin.

Lotion, emulsion

If the skin is a cosmetic product that mainly supplies moisture, lotion is a skincare product that supply soil along with moisture. Since it contains oils, you can check how much oil is in it according to your skin type before choosing. Emulsions are not much different from lotions, but emulsions are products with a thin texture that mixes the lotion with skin. If you are burdened with lotion due to oily face, we recommend using an emulsion with a thinner formulation rather than an oil-rich lotion.

cream

It's much more viscous than the line. It is usually the last product to be used and serves to form a film on the skin. In other words, it is an oil-based film to prevent the moisture in the skin, essence, lotion, etc. that was applied before the cream from evaporating. Products with a lighter, translucent formulation are called moisturizing creams, and more viscous and white opaque products are called moisturizing creams, but creams are also said to be only differences in names between products, but there is not much difference in their roles.

The order of applying men's cosmetics and what to keep in mind

This time, let's take a look at the order of applying men's cosmetics. It's important what kind of type there is, but you also need to know the order in which you apply it to effectively take care of your skin, right?

1. Apply from thin to thick.

As described above, did you notice that it became more and more viscous as you came from the skin to the cream? That is right. Basically, it's a good idea to start with a low-viscosity thin product and finish with the thickest one with the highest viscosity.

The main reason is the water absorption rate.

If you apply a moist skin or essence after wrapping your face with a cream like an oil film, it will be really difficult for the moisture to penetrate the oil film and be absorbed into the skin, right? Therefore, it is best to apply them in the order below.

1. Skin/toner → 2. Essence/Serum/Ampoule → 3. Emulsion/Lotion → 4. cream

Of course, the above order is not necessarily correct. It's a general order, and if you have a more viscous type of cosmetics, you can apply it later. For example, if the cream that suits you has a low-viscosity formulation like a moisturizing cream, and the emulsion is more viscous than the cream, you can apply the cream first. In addition, if you have both essences and serums and you don't know what to apply first, you can apply whichever of the two is less viscous first.

2. Be sure to read the instructions for use of cosmetics.

Depending on the type of cosmetics, there are also types of essences that are applied before the skin. However, there are many cases where people apply it after the skin because it is an essence, and in this case, the cosmetics will not function properly. That's why it's important to know when to apply it after familiarizing yourself with the instructions or instructions on each cosmetic box or container.

And depending on how to use it, some products are only used 1~2 times a week, so if you apply it incorrectly just by looking at the name, it may cause great damage to the skin, so it is better to refer to the instruction manual. You must read it, especially if you have received a gift from someone other than what you have read and chosen.

3. Use a cotton pad for skin.

Many people don't use cotton pads very well because they are bothered. Maybe it's because you don't need it, but it's the biggest nuisance. However, with a cotton pad, even the hard-to-reach areas are meticulously cleaned up, and the remaining impuritiesare wiped out once again, so you can cleanse more thoroughly. And if you clean the skin with the texture, you can see the effect of adjusting the skin texture, so it is good to use a cotton pad in many aspects.

4. All-in-one products are for simplicity.

Many men are attracted to all-in-one products and use them. It's easy, time-saving, and affordable. But in the end, it's more likely to be less effective than applying moisture and oiliness to your face at the same time. Not all products do, but in general. Changing the properties by applying moisture to the face one by one is efficient for absorbing cosmetics, and applying it to a face without anything like an all-in-one is pouring a mixture of oil and water, so moisture absorption is also ambiguous, and it is also difficult to create an oil film. Therefore, if you want to adjust your skin more, we recommend that you apply from skin to creams it should.

5. Avoid cream for troubled products.

Trouble care products contain ingredients called AHAs and BHAs. Their properties are different, but basically AHAs are water-soluble, sif you finish applying the cream and apply it afterwards, it will be less effective. It's water-soluble, so it's going to be hard to get through the oil film. So apply the skin and apply the troubled product, but avoid that area and apply lotion and cream. Or apply all the cream, use a cotton swab to remove the cream from the troubled area and apply the troubled product. This way, the ingredients in the trouble product can work more effectively, right?

Today, we looked at the types of men's cosmetics, the order in which they are applied, and what to keep in mind. I studied because there are many things that I don't know, and I hope it will be of great help to those who did not know. Next time, I will bring a lot of information and introduce it to you. Thank you for reading the long article.
